Coloring Easter eggs

We traditionally color Easter eggs on Good Friday, and the boys were excited about this new activity. Sam hounded me for days to dye the eggs so we figured we’d do them when Gran Elsie and Grandpa Vin came up on Friday. Of course, those plans didn’t materialize as planned since the weather was so awful Elsie and Vin couldn’t reach our home because they couldn’t see the road. It was awful, awful weather with a whole lot of snow covering a sheet of ice on the roadways. There was at least one vehicle in the ditch, and wisely they thought it prudent not to push it.  So, unfortunately, we colored the eggs without them this year (although I can see us having an egg do-ever as soon as we eat the 2 dozen we have in the fridge!).

The boys had a blast. Sam carefully tended his egg  in his preferred red dye one at a time. John was more of the quick dunk then toss it in another color. The whole process went rather quickly – I think it took longer to dissolve the food color tablets than it took us to dye all of the eggs – but they sure had a good time.

And, not really surprising, John’s a big fan of the hard boiled egg. He started picking at one and looked like he would eat right through the shell. So I put it in a bowl, added a little salt and let him go at it. He ate the whole thing! It’s just a shame these aren’t our eggs, yet. Hopefully next year we’ll have lots of white eggs from our Leghorn (“Wooter” as Sam named her) that will be extra tasty.
