Cheering on Grandpa Vin in the Senior Olympics

Yesterday evening Grandpa Vin ran the 3 mile event in the Senior Olympics held here in Great Falls. We were concerned part of the Rivers Edge Trail might have the Missouri River covering sections of it, but thankfully their route kept them high and dry. They started at the “Buffalo Fish” sculpture near Central Ave., ran across the bridge to the West Bank Park, and returned. I am tremendously impressed. It’s so good to see these folks putting to shame people half their ages. I know if I would’ve run we still would be waiting for me to cross the line!

It was rainy and all of us were bundled in warm clothes and rain gear. They boys loved the umbrellas and seemed impervious to the drippy weather. Gran Elsie helped them herd the ducklings, who aren’t so little anymore, trying to keep them away from the road.

We waited near the finish line for Grandpa Bin. On our way to the event Sam wanted to know if Grandpa Vin was as fast as he was (he’s definitely into the speed concept now). He got to see first hand.  They didn’t have his official time, but by his initial calculations he thought he shaved 7 minutes off of his time from the 3 mile run at the Icebreaker at the end of April. That’s pretty darn good in about 6 weeks of training!

As any good athlete, Vin suggested we head to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream after the race.  What a way to end a great evening.
