Last week we finally went down to Gramma Elsie and Grandpa Vin’s cabin in Neihart. It’s such a great place, and I can’t believe it’s taken us until the end of September to spend some time there! Of course, the boys loved it. They threw so many rocks in the creek that it might have changed the course of the channel. They could’ve spent the entire time there, but we did manage to drag them away to eat hamburgers, potato salad, and – much to John’s delight – baked beans. That was all they needed to refuel and be off again.
We went for several walks. There were chipmunks, flowers and bear poop filled with rose hip seeds. Plus, of course, a whole lot of rocks to throw! At the end of the road where Elsie and I walked trying to find the boys who were going on a walk with Grant and Vin, a group of grouse flushed from the grass into the nearby trees. It was just nice to be outside.
Then Elsie fired up a little charcoal barbeque to roast marshmallows to make s’mores. The boys loved the fire – you can tell their mine, which is why the matches have to be hidden – and tried their hand at torching the sweets. After a few attempts, and help from Grandpa Vin, the each got a s’more. Good stuff!

Good stuff! Looks like John loved the treat.
Neihart is so neat. I love the “inconvenience store”. Next time you are so close, let me know I’d love to meet you.
The boy was on a sugar high, Gail!
I sure will, Rhonda! I didn’t realize you were down that direction, but will give you a ring. Hopefully we won’t wait an entire year before we go down again.
