Late Season Planting

The kind folks at Organic Gardening had me write a story on late season planting last year to illustrate when, what and how gardeners take advantage of this often neglected time in the garden. It was a treat to interview growers from Minnesota to southern California for tips and sound advice that is applicable no matter where you plant. The article, Second Acts, is in the current (August to Continue reading the story "Late Season Planting"

IMG_7848 Mom and my niece, Morgan, left several days ago, but I wanted to brag about Morgan's fishing efforts last week. We spent a few hours at Elsie and Vin's cabin in Neihart where Grant showed Morgan how to strategically place the fly in the fast moving Belt Creek. It's some of Continue reading the story "Dances with Fishes"

IMG_7899 We had an interesting walking partner last night when we were on our nightly stroll. Half-way around our loop we saw a Canada goose in the drive way of a house with turkeys and sheep in the backyard, so we assumed they had a new addition. When we were a few Continue reading the story "Look Who Followed Us Home"

Sentimental Journey

My husband's Father's Day request was to see the B-17, Sentimental Journey, that was making a stop at Great Falls International Airport this weekend. Since we are practically within walking distance, it was an easy outing. IMG_7340

We've seen this particularly plane before, but it's impressive every time. To think this is Continue reading the story "Sentimental Journey"

Spoiled Rotten

I know I've been whining a considerable amount during this pregnancy, but one thing I can never say is there was no one to help me. The outpouring of support from Grant and friends has been tremendous. Grant is picking up the slack in the house... he even cleaned the top of the fridge this evening! ( I told a rather tall friend of mine Continue reading the story "Spoiled Rotten"

Twas the Day before Christmas

Even though our home doesn't look particularly festive since the pregnancy has limited much of my holiday activities, it's obvious Christmas is quickly approaching. FedEX, UPS and the postal person are working hard to deliver Sam's plunder which has grown to a fairly substantial pile underneath the tree.

The Baby is Sucking out my Brain

To say I’m uninspired is an understatement. It’s more like it’s a miracle I drag myself out of bed in the wee hours of the morning (since sleeping past 4:00 is an impossibility). I can’t form a coherent sentence, let alone pull together an entire sensible article, and my incessant mantra is “No. Stop it. Come Continue reading the story "The Baby is Sucking out my Brain"

July 2007 I'm including a few more photos in this entry to demonstrate the progression of the garden area from when we bought the house last July to what it became this summer.

When we moved in July 2007 we had weeks of 100+degree Continue reading the story "A Year in the Garden"

Cold Day Canning and Baking

We've experienced a radical temperature shift. On Saturday the high peaked in the mid-80's. Yesterday and today it didn't climb above 47-degrees. We've also had a record amount of rain, which of course, is always welcome in this area. I believe we received .90 inches breaking the former record of .69 that was set in 1906. I don't know what came down today, but since Continue reading the story "Cold Day Canning and Baking"
